Why am I receiving this upgrade? <= /span>The Knights of Columbus and its financial secret= aries and faithful comptrollers are committed to guarding and preserving the privacy = and confidentiality of sensitive member information, specifically, social secur= ity number. This update is an eff= ort to proactively remove this personal information from your records and avoid the risk of accidental or inadvertent disclosure. To this end you must read an= d follow all appropriate instructions in all documents included in this mailing.

PLEASE NOTE: All councils and assemblies should be currently using or in the process of tran= sitioning their council record keeping, billing and collection functions from FSPC to= the Officers Online – Member Management/Member Billing Systems.

What does FSPC 3.55 do? FSPC release 3.55 does the following:=

·         Fills the s= ocial security number field within FSPC with asterisks (*********) and changes the field in the database to read only (no updates allowed). =

·         Completely removes the social security number field from being displayed on the Person= al Information tab under Member Information.

·         Allows FSPC system backups to be properly restored without the restoration of social security number.

·         Please Note= : No other functionality, program fi= xes or changes are included in the FSPC 3.55 release.

My council has never used FSPC.   <= /span>If your council/assembly never ordered, received= or used any version of FSPC then you can ignore the software update portion of this mailing. However, please= note that the enclosed letter outlines your obligations and thee specific steps = you must take to eliminate any automated or manual record you may have in your possession of any member’s social security number.

Do I need to install the new release if I used FSPC in the past but no longer = use it?  &nb= sp; If you plan to retain an installed copy of FSPC on any computer under your control for any reason you are required to install this upgrade. It will delete any member social s= ecurity number information you may have in FSPC and remove the social security numb= er field from the member personal information screen.

If you no longer use FSPC and you wish to permanently remove the system from y= our computer(s) you need not install the FSPC 3.55 upgrade. Remove FSPC by running the uninsta= ll process available for your Windows operating system. (Typically this can be accessed via Start - Control Panel – Add or Remove Progra= ms – FSPC – Change/Remove.)   In addition, you must destro= y any “council roster download” diskettes or CDs as well as any FSPC backups in your possession.

I no longer have FSPC installed on my computer? What do I do? If you no longer have= FSPC installed on your computer you should not attempt to install the upgrade. However, you must destroy any “council roster download” diskettes or CDs and any FSPC backups= in your possession. <= /span>

I use FSPC but none of my member records contain social security numbers̷= 0;do I still have to install the upgrade? All current users of FSPC must install this upgrade regardless of whether your records contain social security numbers or not. The upgrade will remove the field = from the member personal information screen rendering it impossible to store that information in the future.

I am currently using FSPC. What= do I do?   This upgrade is designed for all users of FSPC 3.52-3.53. If you have not up= graded to release 3.52-3.53 please do so before installing this upgrade. All councils/assemblies using FSPC= were previously offered the 3.52-3.53 upgrade. You can determine your current release number by checking the banner screen that appears when you start FSPC.   If you are currently running = FSPC 3.52-3.53 then you may proceed with the installation of the FSPC 3.55 upgra= de. Please refer to the installation instructions that are enclosed. I don’t use FSPC but I used an automated system of my own design. What do I do? A few financial secretaries/faithful comptrollers have chosen not to use FSPC and instead are using automated record keeping of their own design= on spreadsheets, databases, business and personal finance software, etc. A council roster download was some= times requested to populate these records. In these cases you must remove any instances of member social securi= ty number in your records including any backups you may have of this data. You are also required to destroy a= ny council roster download you received that contained member social security number.

Who do I contact if I am having a problem installing the FSPC 3.55 upgrade?   Before installing the FSPC 3.55 upgrade please read the installation instructions carefully and follow them = step by step. Important: You should backup your system prior to installing the upgrade using the FSPC backup utility. This will allow you = to return your system to its condition prior to installation of FSPC 3.55 in t= he remote event you encounter a system problem following the upgrade. Installation Guid= e for FSPC Release 3.55

Before you begin installation of FSPC Release 3.55 please review the enclos= ed “Frequently Asked Questions” document to determine if you need = to install this update. In gener= al, if you currently have FSPC installed on any of your computers then you must install this upgrade on all computers where FSPC is installed. Also please note your current FSPC system should be at version 3.52 prior to installation of this upgrade.   The upgrade for FSPC Release= 3.52 is available for download on the www.fspc.o= rg website.

Installation Instructions:

1.      = Back up your current version of FSPC. This backup is required= in the event that you have problems with the upgrade installation or are experiencing issues with FSPC following the upgrade.

2.      = Insert the FSPC 3.55 installation CD i= nto your computer’s CD/DVD drive.    FOR BETA TESTERS WITHOUT AN INSTALLATION CD – AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD FSPC3.55= .exe FROM THE WEBSITE CLICK ON THE FILE TO LAUNCH THE SETUP. <= /p>
3.&n= bsp;      The installation program should start automatically. If the installation program does not start automatically you should= do the following: Go to ” My Computer” and right click on the drive identification for your CD/DVD drive. Then click on “Explore”. You will be shown all the files in= cluded on the upgrade disk. Click on= ” setup.exe”, an application. &nb= sp; Again, you only need to do this if the installation does not start automatically.

4.      = During installation an installation screen will display.

5.      = The default directory for the FSPC 3.55 upgrade is C://Program Files/The Knights of Columbus/FSPC3. This is the directory where your current version of FSPC should be installed. If for any reason = you installed the previous version of FSPC in a different directory please chan= ge the directory path when requested. <= /span>

6.      = When the installation is complete click Finish to launch FSPC Release 3.55

What will the installation do?

This installation will remove the old FSPC and FSPC Ba= ckup Restore programs from the FSPC3 directory.   Both programs will be replac= ed by the 3.55 versions of both programs. In addition, the old desktop Icons for the old versions of the progr= ams will be deleted and replaced with icons for the new version of the programs= .   In addition program icons wi= ll be added to your common programs directory.&n= bsp; If you do not wish to have these icons on your desktop or common pro= gram directory they may be deleted.

FSPC 3.55 only addresses the issue of member social se= curity number security. It contains = the same functionality as FSPC 3.52.
