Upgrading & Converting (for DOS users)

-----------UPGRADING AND CONVERTING------------------------------------

If you are running version 1.X, you need to convert to version 2 – see Appendix A below. If you are upgrading from version 2, you must be sure that your version 2 is free of any errors – see Apenndix B below. Also, before doing anything else, make sure you take a back up of your information in case anything goes wrong. You will install version 3, and then convert your version 2 files – FSPC version 2 will still exist, but you can remove it yourself later. If you have version 1, you need to upgrade to version 2 before upgrading from version 2 to version 3 – version 2 is included on the FSPC for Windows CD-ROM.

Installing (Upgrading)_______________________________

Place the FSPC CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Your computer should detect the CD and the installation process will begin after a few moments. If your computer does not automatically detect the CD and begin the installation process, then 1) Double click on My Computer, 2) Double click on the CD-ROM drive, 3) Double click on Setup. The InstallShield Wizard will install the program while asking you a series of questions.

Converting Data_________________________________

  1. Double click on the FSPC3 icon to start the program

    -OR-

Click on Start on the task bar, click on Programs, then click on FSPC 3 to start the program.

  2. Once you start FSPC for Windows, you will get the message "Index Re-build Complete." Click OK.
  3. The next message you will get is "No Records Found In Associate & Insurance". Click OK.
  4. FSPC for Windows will automatically start the 2.x DOS Conversion program and will bring up the FSPC 2.x DOS Conversion Window.

Warning! It is very important that you convert your version 2 files before entering any data into the system. Failure to do so will result in corrupt ID’s

  5. Enter the drive and path for your version 2.x system. This will default to C:\FSPC2\. If this is the correct directory, click on OK. If this is the incorrect directory, you can type a new path in this box or click on the Browse button if you are not sure the actual path. This will bring up your Windows Explorer window (not Internet Explorer). The path must be entered correctly or it will not work. Once the path is entered click the OK button.

  6. You will be asked if you really want to convert from DOS 2.x. Click OK.

  7. After the files are converted, you will be told that the import was complete.

Note: While you are in your initial running of the FSPC for Windows you cannot run the FSPC version 2.x. You must exit the FSPC for Windows program first.

Once your files are converted into FSPC for Windows version, you cannot convert them (from version 2 to version 3) again without re-installing the FSPC for Windows program. While you can still work in version 2, you WILL NOT be able to put that information into the Windows version, except by entering it manually.

Backup FSPC for Windows under File immediately after you convert to Windows from DOS. Also run the Data Change Report in Reports, Labels, Letters under Output.

Setting Up Your FSPC Program___________________________

  1. Because of certain Windows in the program, we suggest always maximizing the program window. This will keep Windows from being hidden. To do this, start the program and click on the 1 in the upper right corner of the screen. To set this automatically, consult your Windows manual.
  2. Run a Data Change Report. Click on Output; then Reports, Labels, Letters; then select Supreme; then choose the Data Change Report. Send output to the screen and click on Run. You will get a preview window that will be empty and it will clear automatically. You will then be asked if you would like to update the Data Change information. Click on Yes. Click on the r in the upper right corner to close the window.
  3. Check the following areas to be certain that they converted correctly. If not change them to the correct settings. These are under Setup, unless specified.
  • Billing
  • Council
  • Officers
  • System Options
  • Tables
  • User Defined Fields
  • The Member’s Degree on the Fraternal Screen under Member under the Edit Menu
  • Check everything else to make sure it is correct.

BACKUP YOUR FILES OFTEN UNDER THE FILE MENU
