TRANSFERRING FSPC

When a new member becomes financial secretary, he often is interested in continuing with the FSPC software that his predecessor was using.  It is possible to easily transfer the FSPC software and data to the new financial secretary’s computer.  This procedure is listed below.  This procedure is also useful for financial secretaries needing to transfer FSPC to a different computer of their own.

Take a Backup

The first step is for the old financial secretary to take a backup of the records in FSPC.  This simply entails going to the File menu and clicking on Backup.  Be sure to save the backup file to a floppy disk by changing the Save In location to 3 ½ Floppy.  The backup file contains all the council data.  It is important to save the file to a floppy disk because this disk will be given to the new financial secretary.  More information on backing up and restoring can be found on the Backup & Restore help sheet on the FSPC website.

Transferring Disks

The old financial secretary must give the new financial secretary two items.  He must give him the floppy disk with the backup file on it, which was discussed in the previous step.  He must also give him the FSPC for Windows CD-ROM which contains the FSPC program.  The CD-ROM contains the program itself while the backup file contains the data for the council.

Installing & Restoring

The new financial secretary must now install the FSPC program by using the FSPC CD-ROM.  Next he must restore the backup file given to him by the previous financial secretary.  Instructions for these two steps are listed below.  **Please note that if you are using FSPC version 3.0, you must upgrade to a later version before restoring the backup.  Upgrade to the latest version available on the FSPC website’s Upgrades & Downloads page.  This upgrade needs to be done before beginning step 5 below.  The FSPC version number can be viewed on the first screen that appears when FSPC is opened.

-Installing-----

Place the FSPC CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Your computer should detect the CD and the installation process will begin after a few moments. If your computer does not automatically detect the CD and begin the installation process, then 1) Double click on My Computer, 2) Double click on the CD-ROM drive, 3) Double click on Setup. The InstallShield Wizard will install the program while asking you a series of questions.

-Restoring------

  1. Double Click on the FSPC 3 icon to start the program.

-OR-

Click on the Start Button on the Task Bar; click on Programs; click on FSPC 3 to start the program.

  1. Once you start FSPC for Windows, you will get the message "Rebuild Index Complete". Click OK.
  2. The next message you will get is "No Records Found In Associate & Insurance". Click OK.
  3. FSPC for Windows will automatically start the 2.x DOS Conversion program and will bring up the FSPC 2.x DOS Conversion Window. Since this is a new installation and you are not converting from an older version of FSPC, click Cancel.

  1. Click on File.
  2. Click on Restore. This will bring up the Open window.
  3. Click on u , located at the right of the Look in: box, on the top of the window. With the floppy disk from the previous financial secretary in the floppy drive, select 3 ½ Floppy (A:).
  4. Select the knback2.zip file.  This is the default filename; however the financial secretary may have given it a different name.
  5. Click on the Restore button.
  6. The program will warn you that this will overwrite your current data. Click on OK.

After having installed the FSPC program and restored the council data, we recommend that you do the following:

  1. Because of the placement of certain windows in the program, we suggest always maximizing the program window. This will keep any windows from being hidden. To do this, start the program and click on the 1 in the upper right corner of the screen. To set this automatically, consult your Windows manual.

Always take a back up. When working with FSPC, each change you make is immediately saved. Therefore, if you make a mistake, the mistake is saved. The only way to undo the mistake is by restoring a backup that you made earlier. (See Backup & Restore help-sheet)
